KUALA LUMPUR – A factory in Kuala Selangor producing rubber products was raided by the Labour Department yesterday for failing to comply with the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990.
Its deputy director Mohd Asri Abdul Wahab said the raid was conducted following observation of the factory premises.
“According to our inspection, the employer failed to make an application with the department for worker hostels. But we understand they have plans to move the workers to a new area.
“The employer has also rented hostels outside the area, in addition to building a new accommodation complex. We see this as a good step. We hope the employer has figured out the best way to provide accommodation to their workers,” Asri said.
Also present during the raid were the Social Security Organisation and the police.
Asri said the hygiene of the worker quarters was satisfactory, but the management was however reminded to improve the tidiness of the rooms. – The Vibes, January 13, 2021
