MIRI – Floods in Sarawak are continuing unabated, with more than 1,000 people forced to evacuate their houses this morning.

As of 9am today, the state Disaster Management Committee said 1,179 people have been evacuated.

The secretariat said flood victims from Kuching, Samarahan, Serian and Miri have been moved to temporary flood relief centres.

Several housing estates in Kuching are among the worst hit.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Unit, Rela and other agencies have deployed personnel to the affected areas to help with the evacuation.

So far, 21 flood relief shelters have been opened.

Community halls and school halls are also being used to house flood victims. – The Vibes, January 14, 2021
