KUALA LUMPUR – As the ongoing movement control order (MCO) and emergency gets into its second day today, plans to celebrate Ponggal for women's NGO Kelab Usahawan Wanita Berintegrasi had to be scaled down to just a family celebration.
Deputy chairman T. Umadevi said the Klang-based civil society group was supposed to have a Ponggal celebration on Saturday with all its members.
"Following the announcement, unfortunately, we had to cancel such plans and abide by the MCO SOPs.
"Despite that, I am more than happy to celebrate the occasion with my family members," she told The Vibes this morning.
The NGO, she said, has been organising Ponggal celebrations as well as other events annually without a hitch until the MCO kicked in in March last year and re-enforced this week.
"Hopefully, by next year, we will be able to resume celebrations normally.
"I am hopeful that things will return to normal someday." – The Vibes, January 14, 2021
