KUALA LUMPUR – A man carrying a “Datuk” title is among two individuals arrested on suspicion of assaulting and extorting a man at a restaurant in Tropicana Avenue, Petaling Jaya, on Tuesday.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said the suspects, aged 42 and 39, were detained in Mutiara Damansara here at 3.40pm yesterday.
He said investigations revealed that one of the suspects had allegedly assaulted a restaurant patron, who told the suspects that they were talking too loudly.
“Further investigations found that the man with the ‘Datuk’ title has a criminal record involving criminal intimidation in 2019.
“Police will be submitting a remand application against the suspects to assist in investigations.”
In a statement, Petaling Jaya police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 503 of the Penal Code.
A clip of the incident has been making its rounds on social media since Wednesday.
