KUANTAN – The road to the resort area on Fraser’s Hill via Raub has been closed to vehicles for three days due to fears of rain triggering a landslide.

Raub district police chief Kama Azural told Bernama that only security and health teams are allowed to use the route for emergencies, after getting police’s permission.

He said the decision to close the road was made following discussions with several parties, including the district engineer, after several locations along the stretch were found to be prone to landslides during downpours.

“A Pahang Task Force Committee meeting chaired by state Secretary Datuk Seri Sallehuddin Ishak also backs the decision, to avoid untoward incidents.

“Residents of Fraser’s Hill can use the Kuala Kubu, Selangor, route to buy food or run errands. As Selangor is under the movement control order, I have told the Fraser’s Hill police station to facilitate (the approval of) applications for interstate travel.”

The road will be reopened only after the relevant authorities are satisfied that it is safe, he said. – Bernama, January 16, 2021
