KUALA LUMPUR – PKR respects Sabahans’ decision in yesterday’s state election, which saw the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance securing a simple majority, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The party president said voters fulfilled their responsibility by casting their ballots, despite the country still being under the recovery movement control order to contain the coronavirus.
He expressed hope that the formation of the new state government will be done in a peaceful manner, and congratulated the Warisan Plus pact over the seats it won.
“Congratulations to our partners in Warisan Plus – Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, in particular – over Parti Warisan Sabah’s 23 seats, DAP’s six seats and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation for its win,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also congratulated state PKR chairman Datuk Christina Liew over the party keeping the two Sabah state seats it won in the 2018 general election and almost doubling its percentage of votes in Sook.
The state polls saw only two of PKR’s seven candidates winning, namely Peto Galim in Inanam and Liew in Api-Api.
Anwar urged all those returning from Sabah to undergo Covid-19 screening and quarantine.
GRS, comprising Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah, took 38 state seats, while Warisan Plus secured 32.
The remaining three seats were won by independents. – Bernama, September 27, 2020
