KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor government will donate a total of RM2 million to flood-hit Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.
The contribution, one of several initiatives under the Kita Selangor special package announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today, will see RM1 million channelled to Pahang, and RM500,000 each to Kelantan and Terengganu.
“Selangor sympathises with the plight of the people in states hit by floods, such as Pahang Darul Makmur, Kelantan Darul Naim and Terengganu Darul Iman.
“In being kind to our neighbours, the state government is ready to donate under the #KitaSelangor flood relief initiative.”
He said the Kita Selangor package will cost the state government RM73.77 million.
In line with the state government’s efforts since last year to provide free targeted Covid-19 screening to residents, he said, an additional RM6 million will be allocated for the purpose, set to benefit 50,000.
“This programme will focus on high-risk target groups, such as senior citizens, especially those who are in old folks’ homes and haemodialysis centres, the B40 group, and undergraduates,” he said, adding that more information will be made known from time to time.
The Selangor government will also continue to provide food assistance to all frontliners in the state, comprising 9,822 medical personnel in hospitals, district health officers, and 3,500 personnel from police and the armed forces deployed to man roadblocks.
“This food aid will be provided for lunch and dinner. To implement this initiative, the state government, through Menteri Besar Inc, has allocated a total of RM3 million,” said Amirudin.
He said the state’s 56 assemblymen will immediately receive a special allocation of RM100,000 under the Selangor Mesra Rakyat scheme to continue aiding their constituents.
“With this announcement, programmes or activities that involve aid for the people, including the purchase of basic supplies, such as rice, cooking oil, flour and canned food, can be executed directly.
“All MPs in Selangor will receive RM50,000 for the same purpose.”
The Sg Tua rep added that he will contribute a month’s salary to the state’s Covid-19 fund, which has been reactivated to manage the virus crisis.
“The state government has already received a RM2.3 million contribution to the fund.
“Additionally, the state government proposes to slash the salaries of excos, assemblymen, and senior officers in government-linked companies.
“The salary-cut mechanism will be finalised with the monies channelled to the fund.” – The Vibes, January 20, 2021
