KUALA LUMPUR – All states in the country, except Sarawak, will be under the movement control order (MCO) until February 4, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.
The restriction order in Penang, Selangor, Melaka, the Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Johor, Kelantan and Sabah was supposed to end on January 26.
Ismail Sabri said the matter was decided in a special National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Covid-19 today, following the advice of and risk assessment by the Health Ministry.
He said the move comes as all states showed no improvement in the number of daily Covid-19 infections, many of which are continuing to record increases in positive cases.
“We have agreed to extend the MCO in these states until February 4. With this, we have now standardised the MCO period for all states, barring Sarawak."
In announcing the stricter measures to address Covid-19 on January 11, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said that Penang, Selangor, Melaka, the Federal Territories, Johor and Sabah would be under the strict MCO from January 13 to 26.
Kelantan was added to the list on January 16.
On Tuesday, Ismail Sabri announced that the MCO will also be imposed in Kedah, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis, which had been ordered until February 4.
