KUALA LUMPUR – The need for a total lockdown, as was imposed last year, will be discussed by the government, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister told a press conference today that the matter will be addressed by either Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah or himself before the end of the current movement control order slated for February 4.
Ismail Sabri said the final decision will take into account both public health and the economy, with the relevant ministries and government agencies to hold discussions as well.
He announced that the National Security Council has decided to allow married couples working and living in different states to cross state borders, subject to police approval, beginning tomorrow.
“Couples who are presently not in the best of health are advised to seek treatment before making plans to cross state lines.”
He reported that police yesterday nabbed 482 individuals for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures, including failing to observe social distancing and not wearing a mask in public places, as well as premises’ failure to record customers’ details.
Of the total, 444 were compounded and 38 remanded.
The task force monitoring SOP compliance carried out 62,600 checks yesterday.
