KUALA LUMPUR – The Immigration Department has denied claims that it rejected an exit visa application simply because the applicant wanted to visit their “same-sex” partner overseas.

A source from the department also denied that the applicant was asked “to repent”.

The matter was brought to light by lawyer and activist Siti Kasim in a Facebook post, which has been shared over 144 times so far.

In her post, she said that a Malaysian applied to exit the country to visit their same-sex spouse, but the Immigration Department rejected the application with the word, “please repent”.

Siti also shared a screenshot of the “MyTravelPass” application rejection in her post.

Upon a netizen’s suggestion that the post could have been faked, Siti said it came from the horse’s mouth.

“I was told that this was the biggest insult he had received after so many rejections,” she said.

However, the source said that the screenshot was most likely fake.

Showing an example of a rejection notice in the system, it is evident that reasons are automatically generated based on the cause for rejection.

The Immigration Department may release an official statement on the matter soon. – The Vibes, February 5, 2021
