KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 877 people were caught for flouting standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the movement control order (MCO) yesterday, an increase from the 759 nabbed Friday.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 806 of the violators were issued with compounds and 71 were remanded.
The MCO offences included failure to practice physical distancing (253 cases), unauthorised interstate and inter-district travel (177), socialising at entertainment outlets (101), not wearing masks (98), failure to provide equipment for recording particulars of customers (82), and other violations (166).
Ismail Sabri also said that 45 undocumented people and five boat skippers were arrested through Ops Benteng, with four land vehicles also seized.
He also said that 531 roadblocks were mounted nationwide targeted specifically to keep out undocument migrants.
“The government will take stern action against anyone who tries to enter the country without documents and enforcement agencies will continue to tighten controls at the borders, especially at ‘rat trails’,” he said.
Separately, Ismail Sabri said that a total 120,928 individuals were put under quarantine between July 24, 2020 and yesterday.
He said they were placed at one of 72 hotels, 12 public training institutes and private training institutes nationwide.
“Of these, 5,719 individuals are undergoing compulsory quarantine now, while 566 have been sent to hospitals for treatment, and 114,643 have been allowed to return home so far,” he said.
Yesterday, enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry conducted daily monitoring on 11 types of supplies at 696 business premises, comprising retailers (590 premises), wholesalers (125) and manufacturers (31).
Meanwhile, inspections carried out at 2,939 businesses saw three premises receiving advice over compliance of health and safety SOPs. – The Vibes, February 14, 2021
