KOTA KINABALU – A foreign man was arrested after showing a MyKad with a photo that does not resemble him during a police operation here today.  

The man in his 40s had given the MyKad belonging to another when he was inspected. Upon interrogation, he said he had found the MyKad and was on his way to give it to the authorities before he was stopped.  

The man is among those arrested and detained at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters in Inanam here at about 3pm.  

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Habibi Majinji said 11 individuals were arrested, some over selling contraband cigarettes, and some for being undocumented migrants.  

He added that another four were arrested for possession of methamphetamine while two tested positive for drugs.  

“We have also detained a man who had 125 cartons of cigarettes, estimated to be worth RM3,000 according to market price.  

“All the suspects are aged between 20 and 40.”

Habibi said that such operations will be conducted from time to time to ensure that the area is free of criminal activity.

He said the operation was conducted based on public information and he welcomes information provided by the community.

The operation involving 100 personnel was led by police and joined by the Health Ministry, National Registration Department and the People’s Volunteer Corps. – The Vibes, February 18, 2021
