MIRI – Top leaders of Sarawak PKR will be convening for an emergency meeting to pick a new chief following the resignation of Julau MP Larry Sng, who is now a Perikatan Nasional-friendly independent.

State PKR information chief Abun Sui said party leaders in the state must choose a new head fast.

Speaking to The Vibes, he said Sng’s sudden resignation last night as Sarawak PKR chief and him leaving the party must be countered effectively.

“Sarawak PKR must find a new head as soon as possible because we are in the process of preparing for the 12th state election.

“This time, we must choose a Dayak leader who will be loyal to the party’s cause in wanting to transform Sarawak.”

He said state PKR leaders are in active contact with one another and party headquarters to get a clearer picture on the latest situation.

The party’s Tebrau MP Steven Choong also presented PN with a statutory declaration of support.

PKR vice-president Dr Teo Yu Keng said the state party central committee has urged all members of grassroots branches in Sarawak to remain united.

“We must wait for the party’s national leaders to make further announcements.”

Sng took over as Sarawak PKR chief about two years ago, following the resignation of Baru Bian. He was Sarawak Workers Party president in 2012 before he quite to join PKR. – The Vibes, February 28, 2021
