KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu has confirmed the memberships of independent Tronoh rep Paul Yong and Buntong’s A. Sivasubramaniam, who is formerly of Gerakan.
Perak Bersatu secretary Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin confirmed the matter to Malaysiakini today, saying the duo’s membership applications were submitted and approved last December.
Yong and Sivasubramaniam were DAP members before they declared themselves independents on March 9 last year.
Sivasubramaniam on June 26 last year joined Gerakan, becoming the party’s sole elected representative.
With their Bersatu memberships, Yong is now part of the party’s Batu Gajah division, and Sivasubramaniam, the Ipoh Barat division.
Being non-Bumiputeras, they will be in the Bersatu associate members’ wing.
The Bersatu constitution states that associate members do not have voting privileges when it comes to party matters.
Last weekend, PKR’s Julau MP Larry Sng and Steven Choong (Tebrau) declared themselves independents supporting the Perikatan Nasional government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – The Vibes, March 5, 2021
