MIRI – Two new coronavirus clusters have emerged in Sibu, which is already the worst-hit district in Sarawak.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a statement that the new clusters followed an outbreak today.

The Kiba cluster involves a longhouse in the Ulu Durin locality, where 33 positive cases have surfaced following active contact tracing.

The other new cluster is the Jalan Awang Sibu Prison cluster, where 42 cases involving inmates have emerged.

Active screening is being done to detect more cases there, said the secretariat.

There are 201 new positive cases statewide.

Sibu continues to record the highest daily surge with 75 cases, followed by Kapit (37), Bau (18), Miri (16), Kuching (12), and several other districts with fewer than 10 cases each.

There are 26 active clusters in the state, including the two new ones.

Sibu Hospital is treating 892 positive patients, followed by Miri Hospital (308), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (299), Bintulu Hospital (341), Kapit Hospital (174), Sarikei Hospital (137), Betong Hospital (209), and Sri Aman Hospital (21). – The Vibes, March 7, 2021
