KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 181 individuals were arrested for various offences related to standard operating procedure (SOP) violations yesterday, said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In a statement, Ismail said 93 of them were issued with compounds, 80 were remanded, and eight were released on bail.
The offences recorded were entertainment centre activities (106 cases), failure to observe social distancing (35), failure to record details (24), gambling (8), failure to wear masks (5), unauthorised interstate travel (2), and operating beyond permitted hours (1).
On Ops Benteng, Ismail said 59 illegal immigrants were arrested during the border protection sweep. He said four sea vessels and five land vehicles were also confiscated yesterday.
He also said the compliance operations task force led by the police conducted 66,337 inspections yesterday to monitor and enforce SOPs.
He added that some 3,486 teams involving 15,223 personnel had inspected 7,213 restaurants, 4,720 supermarkets, 2,729 banks, 3,979 centres, 105 farmers and public markets, 2,509 factories, and 779 government offices.
The enforcers also inspected 168 places of worship, 16,985 recreation venues, 3,319 land transport terminals, 1,802 water transport terminals, and 712 air transport terminals.
Ismail added that 2,449 foreigners had been screened for Covid-19 yesterday. Of these, 10 were found to be positive.
With that, the total number of foreign workers screened for Covid-19 thus far totals 640,997, while the total number of employers involved is 33,205.
In total, 9,960 of the foreigners have been found to be positive and 631,037 showed negative results.
The screening of foreigners, which began on February 1, involved 1,534 clinics across the country. – The Vibes, March 22, 2021
