JOHOR BARU – The Captagon pills seized by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department recently are believed to be meant for use by militants in West Asian markets, said Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

He said it is a new type of drug used by militants to embolden themselves when undertaking dangerous missions, like suicide bombing.

“I was made to understand it (Captagon) is a new drug meant for the West Asian market… never used in Malaysia before.”

He said militants, such as Abu Sayyaf members in southern Philippines, are known to consume syabu before committing acts of terror.

“I had not heard of Captagon when serving with E8 (for four years). Malaysia is merely a transit for the drug, which was meant for the European and West Asian markets, where most of its users are,” said Ayob Khan, who is former Bukit Aman special branch counter-terrorism division principal assistant director (E8).

He was commenting on the Customs Department’s recent seizure of 94.8 million Captagon pills worth RM5.2 billion at Port Klang. The amphetamine-type drugs weighing some 16 tonnes were hidden inside castors. – Bernama, March 25, 2021
