KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has cleared the air over his health status, assuring the public that he has not tested positive for Covid-19.
The senior minister said he has undergone two Covid-19 tests after returning from Sabah following the state elections, with both results coming back negative.
Azmin said for the time being, he would continue to carry out his duties and responsibilities from home, where he is currently undergoing self-quarantine.
“There have been a lot of speculations over my health status. I am thankful that many of you are concerned and continue to pray for me and my family’s safety and wellbeing.
“Alhamdulillah, both Covid-19 tests I took were negative. I will continue to undergo self quarantine until I take a third test at the Putrajaya Health Office.
“I pray that all Malaysians are protected from the virus infection,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Speculations were rife yesterday that the International Trade and Industry Minister might have contracted Covid-19, after a Twitter post by his aide Hilman Idham.
In his post, Hilman had urged the public to respect Azmin’s privacy, while not confirming nor denying rumours that the latter had tested positive.
“There have been too many questions about the health and status of Azmin right now. I hope all parties can respect his family and his privacy. I wish all can keep calm and pray for the safety and wellbeing of all Malaysians,” he said.
This came following Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement that seven other ministers and six deputy ministers are currently quarantined at home after Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri tested positive for Covid-19.
Zulkifli had attended a special National Security Council (NSC) meeting with several top government officials on October 3.
