MIRI – The 30,000-plus population of Baram district in the interior of north Sarawak as well as those in other parts of Malaysia have been advised against travelling to Miri until further notice due to the worsening of the city’s Covid-19 situation.

Baram district officer Baru Tai said written notices to chieftains and community leaders of the over 300 interior longhouses and settlements in the area have been issued with a travel advisory.

“All residents are advised against travelling to the Miri and Beluru districts as the Covid-19 situation there is getting more and more serious.

“Those in Miri and Beluru are also advised against travelling to Baram.

“This advice must be obeyed strictly as part of our Covid-19 risk-management strategy,” said Tai in his written advisory today.

The advisory sighted by The Vibes was addressed to all longhouse chiefs and community leaders in Baram, which is the size of Johor.

Miri district has seen 467 new Covid-19 infections in the past two weeks alone, based on figures from its Health Department.

There have been nine deaths in Miri due to the coronavirus from the middle of last year until yesterday.
