KOTA KINABALU – The water supply in Kota Kinabalu, especially in Bandar Sierra, Taman Rimba and University Apartment, will return normal in two to three days, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Bung said the water supply disruption since Tuesday was caused by power outage at the Telibong water treatment plant in Tamparuli, which caused the facility to stop working for three hours.
“On Saturday, water taken from the river was so dirty that the plant had to be closed for five hours, disrupting water supply. This has caused a 30% reduction in water supply to the north of Kota Kinabalu, which was made worse (due to it being) the weekend, when demand is high,” he said in a statement today.
Bung, who is also works minister, said his ministry understands the problems faced by the residents and has arranged for the state Water Department to send water trucks to the affected residential areas.
“The long-term solution is the second phase of the Telibong water treatment plant project, expected to be completed in 2023.”
He said the affected plant started to stabilise today and is expected to resume regular function by Monday or Tuesday.
“We hope there will be no more electricity supply disruption in these few days. The ministry apologises to the inconvenience faced by the users.” – The Vibes, April 10, 2021
