MIRI – Latest projections indicate Sarawak may be seeing triple-digit daily cases in the coming two to four weeks, said health authorities.
State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian today warned that for every 100 cases, another 118 will be infected, based on the current infectivity rate of 1.18.
“Due to the current infection rate, Sarawak will see a series of triple-digit daily cases for the next two to four weeks at least.
“Whether we impose a full MCO (movement control order) or not, we may see this happening everyday,” he said in his updates via his social media chat groups.
He added that the state authorities are very concerned about the rising number of daily fatalities in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said as of yesterday, Malaysia’s infectivity rate is at 1.14 while Kelantan has the highest rate at 1.27, followed by Putrajaya at 1.26 and Sabah 1.21.

Sarawak recorded another five Covid-19 deaths yesterday and 489 new cases.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the latest deaths involved a 55-year-old man in Sarikei, a 77-year-old woman in Sibu, a 77-year-old woman in Sarikei, a 78-year-old man in Sibu, and a 59-year-old man in Sibu.
The state’s death toll reached 133 as of yesterday and more than 21,000 cumulative cases.
Committee chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to issue a statement today on whether the MCO will be imposed in Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, and Meradong.
The secretariat said out of the 489 cases, Kuching recorded 99, Sri Aman 76, Sibu 75, Miri 50, Bintulu 48, Beluru 32, Samarahan 25, Sarikei 17, and numerous other districts below 10 new cases each. – The Vibes, April 15, 2021
