KUALA LUMPUR – A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Kg Dato Onn, Johor Baru, Johor, for cheating RM185,000 and pretending to be a lawyer linked to the Johor royal palace.

Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay in a press conference today said further investigation revealed that the man has been accused of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and other offences under the Companies Act 2016.

“The suspect will be brought to the Petaling Jaya sessions court to be charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail sentence of between one and 10 years, whipping and fine.”

In another case, he said two businessmen claiming to be Johor royalty are accused of cheating in a non-existent land clearing project in Sekakap, Mersing.

They are also being investigated under the same section of the Penal Code, he added.

“Of late, there are many people claiming to be Johor royalty or have close ties to them.

“We urge the public to do their due diligence to avoid being cheated.”

Ayob Khan said red notices are out for Geng Nicky’s mastermind, Datuk Seri Nicky Liow, and his assistant, Niu Zhe, a female Chinese national.

However, he did not elaborate further on the case, saying that investigations are still ongoing. – The Vibes, April 22, 2021
