GEORGE TOWN – More than 80% of registered vaccine recipients showed up in the first three days of Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Penang.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this shows that the inoculation drive is well received by Penangites.
The highest attendance rate was on Tuesday at 89%.
“On the first day, a recipient attendance rate of 83.4% was recorded, followed by 89% on the second day and 88% on the third day,” Chow told a press conference at Komtar today.
“In my opinion, this is a high rate, even though it should have been 100%. But in the current situation, the attendance is considered good.”
He expressed hope that individuals unable to keep their appointments will show up on the rescheduled date.
The state Health Department accepts three reasons for failure to show up, namely change of mind, being out of state, and the person being unable to be contacted.
“I hope the attendance (rate) will maintain or increase,” said Chow.
He said those who have not kept their vaccination appointments need not register again, but wait for a new date to be given via the MySejahtera app.
“If you cannot attend, you just have to wait for a new date (to be given through) MySejahtera. However, be reminded that the date may not be given immediately, because MySejahtera will re-evaluate the recipient.”
Phase 2 kicked off on Monday in eight states: Kedah, Melaka, Pahang, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Labuan.
This phase, which involves the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines, prioritises 9.4 million recipients, mostly comprising individuals aged 60 and above, people with chronic diseases, and the disabled. – The Vibes, April 22, 2021
