GEORGE TOWN – Forty-two people have been arrested and drugs seized in a raid on a birthday party held at a Batu Ferringhi bungalow amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The raiding party, comprising police, health inspectors and Penang Island City Council officers, found 1.4g of ketamine in the operation yesterday.

District police head Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the 34 men and eight women will be charged under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.

Four partygoers – three men and one woman – tested positive for meth, and they will face additional drug charges.

The owner of the bungalow, meanwhile, will be compounded for allowing the event to take place despite health and safety standard operating procedures against the coronavirus listing physical distancing as a must.

In another operation, a 21-year-old disc jockey was detained for operating an entertainment outlet without prior approval from the city council.

Seventy-six patrons were issued compounds for not observing physical distancing. – The Vibes, October 11, 2020
