MIRI – PKR branches in Baram and Miri have delivered more than two tonnes of food aid to longhouse folk in the interiors of both districts.

Baram PKR information chief Dennis Along said the essential food items, bought in Miri, were sent to Long Terawan and Sg Tutoh in the interior over the past few days. Both areas are located about 300km inland.

Miri PKR chief Dr Teo Yu Keng, who is also Miri MP, facilitated the purchase of the items.

A convoy of four-wheel drives from here headed to Marudi after picking up, among others, rice, noodles, cooking oil, canned food and dry rations.

From Marudi, Along said, the convoy plied jungle roads to reach Long Terawan and the settlements in Mulu National Park.

“People in rural areas are badly affected by the recent floods and Covid-19.

“Places like Long Terawan and Long Panai were also hard-hit by floods earlier this year and are in need of food supplies.”

He said PKR hopes to offer some relief to those whose income had dwindled due to loss of crops and jobs. – The Vibes, May 1, 2021
