MIRI – The Covid-19 death toll hits 201 in Sarawak today, with six fresh fatalities.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the deaths involve a 60-year-old woman in Bintangor; three men – one aged 59 and two aged 77 – in Sibu Hospital; a 75-year-old man in Miri Hospital; and, an 80-year-old man in Bintulu Hospital
Sarawak also recorded 750 new Covid-19 cases today.
Miri leads with the most daily cases at 124, followed by Selangau (111), Sibu (94), Sarikei (53), Bintulu (50), Pusa (45), Kanowit (40), Pakan (36), Betong (29), Meradong (29) and Kuching (22). Other districts logged fewer than 20 cases each.
Three new community clusters emerged today, bringing the total number of clusters in the state to 77.
The Kg Hilir Beladin cluster in Pusa recorded 46 cases involving villagers, the Jalan Limbang cluster in Miri has 18 cases, and the Penurin cluster in Betong has 23 cases involving a longhouse.
The Jalan Limbang cluster involves residents who contracted Covid-19 after gathering at a place of worship for a meeting, subsequently infecting their families and close contacts.
Two more longhouses in Lundu – Rumah Luyoh and Rumah Unjan – have been placed under the enhanced movement control order due to an increase in Covid-19 infections.
