MIRI – Sarawak has logged seven new Covid-19 clusters today, of which six are in Kuching district and one in Sri Aman district.
The state also has another Covid-19 death recorded in Miri Hospital today involving a 43-year-old man, who hailed from a village in Beluru sub-district.
The state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said in a statement that the death toll is now at 212.
As for the new clusters, the Nanga Skrang cluster in Sri Aman involves 27 individuals in a longhouse.
The clusters in Kuching are Skim Penempatan Stapok involving 26 residents; Asia Villa involving 15 residents; Jalan Rubber involving 12 individuals in a workplace; Konsortium Baru Kuching involving eight in a workplace; Kemas Kuching involving 10 people in an office; and Singgahsana Lodge involving 14 people in a tourist lodging camp.
There are a total of 83 clusters in the state, said the DMC.
Of the 405 new cases in Sarawak, 79 are in Kapit district, followed by Bintulu (60), Miri (47), Kuching (35), Beluru (21), Mukah (17), Samarahan (17), Subis (16), Serian (13), and other districts (fewer than 10 cases each).
The secretariat warned that all major hospitals in Sarawak are seeing their intensive care units operating at critical capacity, and unable to cope with further surge in cases. – The Vibes, May 12, 2021
