KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 tally has inched up to 4,855 cases, 90 more than yesterday, bringing cumulative infections to 458,077.
Today’s caseload is the highest since January 31, when the country had 5,298 infections.
Selangor remains the state with the most cases, recording 1,783 today, followed by Kuala Lumpur (521), Johor (467) and Sarawak and Penang, which logged 395 infections each.
Kelantan has 339 cases, followed by Perak (302), Kedah (193), Terengganu (148) and Negri Sembilan (100), while the states with fewer than 100 cases are Sabah (76), Melaka (67), Pahang (56) Putrajaya (9) and Labuan (4).
Perlis has no new cases.
The Health Ministry also reported 27 deaths from Covid-19 today, bringing the nation’s death toll to 1,788.
According to the ministry’s daily statement, all the deceased were Malaysians ranging from the ages of 40 to 83.
Three of the deceased had already breathed their last by the time they were brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile, 481 infections are currently being treated at intensive care units across the country, with 247 requiring ventilator support.
As for clusters, the ministry reported 457 as remaining active, including eight new ones identified today.
Two clusters were identified in Selangor, namely the Jalan Kereta Api Lama cluster and the Jalan Lima Kebun cluster, which involve worksites. They both logged 35 infections cumulatively.
In Johor, the ministry detected two worksite clusters – the Jalan Tropika Industry cluster and the Jalan Suasa Industry cluster, which registered 26 cases in total.
The ministry only detected one worksite cluster in Penang, the Jalan Chain Ferry cluster, which recorded 14 infections.
