KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he will focus fully on the government’s efforts to contain Covid-19 despite opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s attempt to unseat him.
“I do not want to comment on what Anwar did at the palace. There is so much interest given to that. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll leave it to the Agong’s good judgment,” Muhyiddin told a press conference this evening.
“The Agong is the most learned and qualified person. He has his own way of doing things, as provided for by the constitution,” he said, adding that whatever decision the king makes will be based on the constitution.
His remarks come after Anwar this morning had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, where the PKR president presented documents to show he has the support of more than 120 MPs to become prime minister.
Muhyiddin said he was in a videoconference with National Security Council members to discuss the pandemic when Anwar was at Istana Negara.
“My interest now is managing Covid-19, and of course, managing the economy.”
The palace has said Anwar did not submit the names of MPs backing him, only the number. – The Vibes, October 13, 2020
