POLITICAL cooperation between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and PAS has ended, with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin saying the decision was made by PAS and not his party.
“There is no need for me to comment, it happened a long time ago. It was done by PAS. We did not make that decision.
“So, whatever it is, it is already known. So, it means that as of today, we are still not cooperating with PAS. It was not Bersatu’s choice, it was PAS’ choice,” he told reporters at Bersatu’s 10th anniversary celebration Petaling Jaya last night.
Muhyiddin also questioned PAS’ commitment to the concept of Malay-Muslim unity, which has featured prominently in the party’s political rhetoric.
“We also uphold the principle of ummah unity. They say ummah unity, but what kind of ummah? A selected ummah, or Muslims in general? I do not understand,” he said.
The breakdown in cooperation comes as the wider dispute within Perikatan Nasional (PN) moves into a formal process involving the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Muhyiddin said Bersatu had lodged a complaint against the current PN leadership, with the party identifying eight matters it alleged had been breached or disregarded.
He said Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had been called to provide an explanation to RoS.
“We have raised eight key matters which, on our part, have been breached and disregarded by the current Perikatan Nasional leadership.
“That is why we lodged the complaint, and from that meeting we found that the Registrar of Societies is taking the matter seriously because it has happened repeatedly. We leave it to the wisdom of RoS and hope a decision can be made in the near future,” he said.
Bersatu is seeking an early decision from RoS on the complaint, which concerns the party’s position within PN.
RoS had earlier confirmed receiving Bersatu’s complaint over claims that the party was not involved in a PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
Muhyiddin said Bersatu was also exploring new political alignments following the breakdown in cooperation with PAS, saying the party had received positive signals from various quarters ahead of the next general election. - September 20, 2026
