JOHOR BARU – Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today decreed that all elected representatives in the state sit together to share their ideas on controlling the Covid-19 crisis and aiding the people hit hard by the pandemic.

A meeting of MPs and assemblymen, to be chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, must be convened, said the ruler in a statement posted on Facebook.

“The state government and leaders elected by the people must ensure that the spread of Covid-19 is immediately curbed, and at the same time, see to it that assistance is given to those affected.

“I am aware that under the emergency ordinance, parliamentary and state assembly sittings cannot be held, but I feel the services of Johor MPs and assemblymen must continue, so as to help those affected cope with the pandemic.”

Johor today logged 615 coronavirus cases, a slight decrease from yesterday’s 699.

The state has seen a total of 52,531 infections and over 170 deaths. – Bernama, May 20, 2021
