KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 660 new Covid-19 cases as of noon, bringing the total number of infections to 17,540.
Four deaths were reported today, bringing the death toll to 167, said the Health Ministry.
“This brings active cases to 5,768 and they have been isolated and given treatment,” said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
A total of 654 infections were local transmissions while six were imported.
Of the total active cases, 108 of them were in intensive care and 35 on ventilator support.
He also said there are 233 recoveries, leading to the total number of recovered cases going up to 11,605 cases.
Besides that, Dr Noor Hisham said there was a new cluster called Kencana, involving the Hulu Langat, Petaling, Klang and Gombak districts, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru, Pontian and Batu Pahat districts in Johor.
“The index case for the Kencana cluster was identified as Covid-19 positive after a swab test of people with symptomatic individuals on October 7 and was admitted into Sg Buloh Hospital. Then, close contact screening identified 16 other Covid-19 positive cases,” he said.
He said as of noon today, 23 people took the swab test in this cluster where 17 cases were found positive, four were negative and two awaiting results.
From new 660 cases, six were imported and the remaining were local transmissions.
“The six cases involved two citizens and four foreigners from Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.”
He said of the 654 local transmissions, 608 are Malaysians and 45 infected are foreigners. – The Vibes, October 14, 2020
