KUALA LUMPUR – The Kelana Jaya LRT line has been fully restored and running as normal, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong following the crash on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference today, he said the recovery team has been working round the clock to remove the damaged trains and clean up debris since the incident.
“This morning, Rapid Rail has obtained the Land Public Transport Agency’s opinion that work will be completed at 2pm today. All of the agency’s conditions have been met.
“Its director-general has issued a letter allowing operations to fully resume at 2pm today.
“I would like to inform the press that the LRT Kelana Jaya line’s service is back to normal. It will start at about 3.45pm, and revert to the original capacity and frequency under the (current) movement control order standard operating procedures.”
Rapid Rail has deployed 367 personnel for the recovery work on the damaged line, and reinstalled a linear heat detection cable that allows a station to detect fire in the tunnels, following the agency’s conditions.
It is compulsory for all stations along the line to have the system, but the one at the KLCC station was damaged during the incident.
On the complaints from commuters, Wee said when Prasarana Malaysia Bhd was forced to shut down the track at KLCC station, it inadvertently affected four other stations.
“There were complications after the incident. We were informed that when we shut down one of the tracks, a power-off occurred during debris cleaning work.
“This affected five stations, namely the Dang Wangi, Kg Baru, Ampang Park, Damai and KLCC stations. All five experienced a power-off on one of the tracks. It affected the loop between Damai and Pasar Seni.
“This left us with only one track. Now, there will be no delays,” he said, assuring the trains are safe and there will no longer be any delay, even during rush hour.
The Ayer Hitam MP will be taking the first train on the Kelana Jaya LRT line from the KLCC station to Pasar Seni station with a few journalists.
Once at full capacity, the line will have 58 trains in operation.
Wee said the repair costs are borne by Prasarana and covered by insurance. – The Vibes, May 28, 2021
