KUALA LUMPUR – Three victims of the light rail transit accident on the Kelana Jaya line last Monday who are being treated in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) intensive care unit are recovering well, said Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
“The medical team this (yesterday) morning reported to me that all three patients showed good progress towards recovery, and they are all in more stable condition now,” said the transport minister in a Facebook post.
Wee said a 37-year-old female patient who underwent brain surgery a day after the crash has made a good recovery and is under close monitoring.
He said a 52-year-old male patient, too, is showing improvement.
The man will undergo spinal surgery today, with the RM24,000 cost for titanium plating, screws, rods and other instruments to be fully paid for by public transport operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, said Wee.
He said the third patient, a 26-year-old woman, is also getting better, and will receive further treatment by an ear, nose and throat specialist and an ophthalmologist.
He expressed his appreciation for the HKL team’s hard work in providing the best treatment to the three accident victims.
“At the same time, I’ve been in constant communication with their (victims’) families these past few days. All Transport Ministry staff are praying hard for their complete recovery.”
The crash about 8.30pm last week saw a train without passengers on board colliding with another carrying commuters in the tunnel near the KLCC LRT station. – Bernama, May 31, 2021
