PUTRAJAYA – Owners of empty residential and commercial premises will be able to apply for assessment exemption at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa today said mayor Datuk Mahadi Che Ngah has the authority to approve the applications.

“Those who qualify are lot owners who can prove they are not generating income from their premises. The mayor has been granted powers to exempt their assessment rates.

“Consideration will be on a case-by-case basis.”

Annuar said those with empty lots prior to the pandemic are also allowed to apply as the Covid-19 outbreak may be the reason they failed to get tenants.

He added that this is to ease the burden of landlords who are not only losing income, but must pay taxes.

When asked if they will be granted full exemption, Annuar said it is up to the mayor.

He added DBKL will work on application details before making an announcement. – The Vibes, October 15, 2020
