KOTA KINABALU – Former Tg Aru MP Leonard Hsing Yin Shean died yesterday of Covid-19 a month after he was hospitalised on May 5. He was 69.

Hsing, who was a DAP member, was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.

In a statement released by Sabah DAP secretary Chan Foong Hin, Hsing was born and raised here and pursued his tertiary education in architecture at University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology.

Hsing joined DAP on October 28, 1986, and was the party’s Tg Aru candidate that same year.

Although he lost his seat in 1990, Hsing continued to be active in Sabah DAP. He also joined party veteran Lim Kit Siang in conquering Mount Kinabalu in 1993.

“Hsing was my Kota Kinabalu MP candidacy proposer in 2018. He contributed to our governing experience after Pakatan Harapan took power in 2018.

“The latest programme he participated in was the food basket distribution here last year against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“He will be missed and always remembered,” said Chan.
