MIRI – Sarawak recorded a new Covid-19 outbreak at a longhouse funeral amid four more deaths and 600 new infections registered today.
Despite funerals being capped to 10 people under the movement control order, the funeral in Ulu Sebakang longhouse in Mukah district still took place with 78 people involved,
The Ulu Sebakang cluster has 50 positive infections so far, said the state Disaster Management Committee in a press statement here today.
All those infected in the longhouse have been sent to the Sarikei Hospital.
Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded four new coronavirus deaths. One of these involved a 61-year-old man in Miri Hospital, a woman aged 72 in Sarikei Hospital, a 72-year old man in Sibu Hospital and a man aged 62 in Kanowit Hospital.
“The total death toll stands at 322,” said the committee when extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
There are 600 new infections in Sarawak, with Kuching district notching 113 cases.
Sibu had 107 new cases, Bintulu (101), Miri (72), Sri Aman (39), Kapit (26), Tatau (26) and numerous districts below 20 new cases each.
The secretariat said there are 76 clusters in the state.
As for the AstraZeneca vaccination programme, the secretariat said the jabs will be administered in Kuching and Miri starting tomorrow.
In Kuching, the vaccination centre will be at the Borneo Convention Centre while in Miri it will be at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara centre. – The Vibes, June 6, 2021
