GEORGE TOWN – Penang has received the federal nod to set up special vaccination centres for economic frontliners working in factories, tourism, and retail sectors, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“Such centres will complement existing ones and help create the herd immunity the state aspires for, given the increase in people getting shots,” said Chow.

With the cooperation from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry and the International Trade and Industry Ministry, as well as other agencies, two new special centres have been identified to be set up on the island and mainland for economic frontliners.

In a statement here today, Chow also said that he has written to Miti asking for onsite centres to be set up, involving three multinational corporations with the capacity to conduct mass vaccination of employees.

Mobile centres will be deployed to reach out to immobile senior citizens and 3,309 caregivers in 87 care centres.

“We are looking to vaccinate all high-risk people in Penang as soon as possible,” said Chow. – The Vibes, June 12, 2021
