KOTA KINABALU – Party rejuvenation, core values and current issues in the state will be among the key highlights at Parti Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) 35th annual delegates’ conference tomorrow.

PBS secretary-general Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the conference will be held virtually, adding that party president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili will likely touch on the above-mentioned issues in his keynote address at the beginning of the conference.

“Despite the numerous challenges faced by PBS over the years, including defections, it continues to be represented both in Parliament and the state assembly.”

The virtual conference will be attended by 640 delegates from 57 divisions, which have successfully held their respective annual general meetings.

It will also see the attendance of members from the Youth and Wanita wings, and the supreme council.

PBS is the oldest surviving political party in Sabah, and, after its formation in 1985, ruled the state between 1985 and 1994.

Bangkuai said the conference will begin with a meeting of the Youth wing, followed by one of the Wanita wing, and culminate with the main conference in the afternoon.

“Delegates will be attending the conference virtually from their respective divisions in compliance with movement control order standard operating procedures.”

He said the conference will also see the president launch PBS’ newly developed online membership application. – The Vibes, June 16, 2021
