PENAMPANG – Residents here reportedly fled from their homes when they found out that the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be enforced in their residential area.

Penampang police chief Mohd Haris Ibrahim said such a scenario is common in the district, and people would stay with their relatives before the EMCO kicks in to avoid movement restrictions.

“The government is imposing the EMCO to contain the spread of Covid-19 in one area. So if people flee from their homes, it would create a risk of the virus spreading to other areas instead.

“For those who have left their homes and are currently staying in other places, please follow the standard operating procedures so you don’t risk spreading the virus to other areas,” he said.

Haris also reminded the people of Penampang not to move to other places should their residential areas be subject to the EMCO in the future.

He said this at a press conference after he inspected the pandemic situation at Vista Minintod Apartment here, which is under EMCO until June 29.

Two other areas under EMCO in Penampang are Country Heights Apartment (until June 29) and Taman Villa Felca Nambazan (until June 26). –The Vibes, June 19, 2021
