KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 113 factories were ordered shut for breaching the movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) since the implementation of the total lockdown on June 1.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the closure orders came after 510 factories were inspected by the compliance operation task force between June 1 and 19.

Cumulatively, he said, a total of 24,942 factories and business premises have been checked since January 14 this year, involving 22,819 business premises and 2,123 factories.

“To date, 167 factories and 17 non-factory premises have been instructed to close,” he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri also said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had carried out 33,010 checks between June 1 and 19.

“On June 19, a total of 2,027 daily compliance inspections were carried out and 12 compounds were issued to business premises that failed to comply with the MCO SOPs.”

Meanwhile, he said 852 individuals were nabbed for violating the SOPs yesterday, 821 of which were fined and 31 detained.

Among top offences were failure to maintain physical distance involving 175 individuals, not wearing masks (143), failure to record personal details (129), and not following movement control instructions (94). – The Vibes, June 20, 2021
