POLICE have confirmed that a teenage girl was injured, believed to have been slashed with a sharp object by an unknown individual while riding a motorcycle on Jalan Tangga Batu, Tanjung Kling in Melaka, yesterday.
Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the 19-year-old victim, who works as a factory operator, suffered a wound about seven centimetres long on her back.
"An examination by a doctor at the Yellow Zone of the Melaka Hospital found that the injury was not the result of a stab wound, but rather appeared to have been slashed with a sharp object based on the tears in the clothing and the long wound marks.
"The victim, who is from Tangkak, Johor, has only been working at a factory here for three weeks and claims not to have any enemies or know the individual suspected of being involved as she has no contacts in this state," he said as He said that before the incident, the victim was riding pillion with her sister-in-law and was on her way home at Batu 9, Tangga Batu, when she felt a sharp pain in her back.
"The victim asked to stop on the side of the road when her sister-in-law saw a dark blue Yamaha LC V8 motorcycle with a man wearing a blue MS jacket and helmet speeding up from behind.
"The forensic team has taken two blood samples from the motorcycle used by the victim to be sent to the Chemistry Department for DNA analysis," he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm using a sharp weapon.
