PENAMPANG – The General Operations Force (GOF) seized some RM4.5 million worth of cigarettes and alcohol from unnumbered premises in Limbanak here yesterday.

In the 4pm raid under Op Kontaban, the smuggled goods were found in 10 containers.

Sabah GOF brigade commander Mohd Abduh Ismail said the seizure followed intelligence reports provided by the 16th Battalion task force and a public tip-off.

Four men aged between 22 and 34 were arrested, he said.

“Two of them are locals, while the other two are Indonesian illegal immigrants.”

He said the suspects have been handed over to the Penampang police station, while the seized contraband will be sent to the Kota Kinabalu police station after documentation is completed.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“All the suspects will be remanded for seven days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Investigations will be carried out by Penampang police,” said Abduh. – The Vibes, June 22, 2021
