MIRI – Three more people have died of Covid-19 in Sarawak as fresh outbreaks were detected in six longhouses following a social gathering and a Gawai ritual.
The deaths are of a man aged 80 in Pakan, a woman aged 52 in Selangau and a 74-year-old woman in Sarikei.
This takes the death toll to 392, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
The Sg Kotak cluster in Meradong district saw 34 cases after a social gathering in a longhouse while the Nanga Tada cluster had 107 cases following a Gawai ritual ceremony.
“Infected residents have been sent to the Sibu and Kanowit hospitals,” said the secretariat.
The Kuala Tatau cluster has 22 cases while the Tg Lelengau cluster in Pakan district saw 52 infections.
Meanwhile, there were 577 new cases in the state today.
Kuching district logged the most cases at 145, followed by Pakan (45), Bintulu (40), Kanowit (37), Meradong (31), Tatau (30), Sibu (27), Miri (26), Kapit (22) and other district with fewer than 20 cases each. – The Vibes, June 23, 2021
