KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia continues to log daily new Covid-19 in the high 5,000s, with 5,841 infections recorded today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

In a statement, he said this takes the cumulative tally to 716,847 cases. 

Of the new cases, only eight are imported.

A total of 84 fatalities were also reported, taking the death toll to 4,721.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 5,411 recoveries, taking the total to 650,964. This is as 869 patients remain in intensive care, with 438 requiring breathing support. 

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of infections at 2,072, followed by Negri Sembilan (781), Sarawak (581), Kuala Lumpur (552), Johor (346), Kedah (271), Melaka (247), Labuan (212) and Sabah (203).

States that saw fewer than 200 cases are Pahang (162) followed by Kelantan (135), Perak (120), Penang (108), Terengganu (29), Putrajaya (17) and Perlis (5).

Of the 581 new cases in Sarawak, Sibu district has the most cases at 85, followed by Sri Aman (63), Kuching (58), Bintulu (46), Miri (39), Saratok (26), Meradong (24), Mukah (20), and other districts with fewer than 20 cases each.

The state also logged four more clusters.

The Jalan Setia Raja cluster in Kuching district saw 10 cases, while the KM28 Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster, also in Kuching, saw 28 inmates down with the virus.

Tatau district has another outbreak in a longhouse, called Sg Separau cluster with 33 cases.

The Jalan Sg Antu cluster in Sibu district saw 24 workers infected.

Dr Noor Hisham said the 84 deaths today involved 32 in Selangor, 10 each in Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan, 8 in Kelantan, 7 in Johor, and 6 in Kedah.

Labuan logged 3 fatalities, followed by 2 each in Melaka, Perak, and Pahang, as one each in Sabah and Terengganu.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the country has seen a total of 2,720 clusters, including 30 new clusters today.

A total of 1,853 clusters have ended, leaving 867 clusters active.

Dr Noor Hisham said 20 of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, 9 came from the community, and 1 from a high-risk group.

New clusters recorded today
Selangor recorded the Persiaran Aspirasi construction site cluster in Sepang with 16 cases, followed by the Sg Linau cluster in Sepang (12 cases), Jalan Langat Utama Satu in Kuala Langat (12), the Industri Jalan Kilang Bestari cluster in Kuala Selangor (22), the Industri Jalan Seruling 57 cluster in Klang (101), the Industri Rawang Perdana Satu cluster in Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Klang, and Petaling (28), the Industri Mahkota cluster in Hulu Langat (36), and the Industri Jalan Udang cluster in Klang (22). All the clusters are related to workplaces.

Selangor also logged the Jalan Cox high-risk group cluster in Klang with 15 cases.

Negri Sembilan registered the Jalan Haruan Tujuh workplace cluster in Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau with 81 cases, the Perusahaan Pantai workplace cluster in Seremban, Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, and Rembau (74), and the Permata Satu 2 workplace cluster in Seremban (36).

Sarawak saw the Jalan Sg Antu cluster in Sibu and Meradong with 24 cases, and the Sg Separai community cluster in Tatau with 33 cases.

Johor logged the Industri Murni Lapan workplace cluster in Kulai and Johor Baru with 31 cases, the Jalan Keluli Industri cluster in Johor Baru with 21 cases, and the Jalan Senai Jaya Satu community cluster in Kulai with 16 cases.

Kedah recorded the Dah Industri Sg Getah workplace cluster in Kuala Muda with 16 cases, the Dah 3/5 Industri Sungai Petani workplace cluster in Kuala Muda with 22 cases, while Sabah logged the Paris Tiga workplace cluster in Kinabatangan (29), and Brumas Camp community cluster in Kalabakan (20).

Kuala Lumpur detected the Taman Tun Dr Ismail workplace cluster in Kepong with 22 cases, followed by the Jalan Kubur community cluster in Lembah Pantai (53), Pantai Ria community cluster in Lembah Pantai (98), and the Taman Bukit Angkasa community cluster in Lembah Pantai (101).

Finally, Kelantan logged the Kg Kajang Sebidang community cluster in Tumpat with 30 cases, and the Taman Kurnia Jaya community cluster in Kota Baru with 28 cases. Perak recorded the Pulai Jaya Sembilan workplace cluster in Kinta with 6 cases, and Pahang saw the Sentral Triang workplace cluster in Bera with 18 cases. – The Vibes, June 24, 2021
