MUAR – The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry has issued nearly 1,000 movement permission letters to pineapple entrepreneurs nationwide to carry out agricultural, marketing, and processing activities during the third movement control order.

Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) had also marketed 22 tonnes of pineapples to help affected growers.

“During the implementation of MCO 3.0 from June 1 until now, LPNM has assisted affected farmers by providing logistics for the delivery and marketing of pineapples to middlemen and wholesalers,” he told reporters after presenting food boxes to residents and front-line workers at the Pagoh Sports Complex vaccination centre here today.

He said LPNM’s efforts have significantly reduced the non-marketability issue faced by pineapple growers during MCO 3.0 as compared with MCO 1.0 and MCO 2.0.

He said this proved that the government wanted to ensure that farmers and entrepreneurs could market their agricultural produce to balance the economic and health needs of the people.

On the food boxes programme, Ronald said a total of 1,000 boxes of food containing rice, sugar, flour, and pineapple-based food products were distributed to ease the burden of the people affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

He said that at the same time, it aimed to educate the people to adopt a good pineapple diet to prevent various diseases and improve the body’s defence system, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic, adding this campaign would also help pineapple growers and entrepreneurs increase sales and demand for the fruits in the market. – Bernama, June 29, 2021
