KUALA LUMPUR – Parliamentary speakers have suggested to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for a special sitting to be held before August 1, according to the country’s legal provisions.
In a joint statement issued by Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun today, they said the suggestion was made after their audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday.
“The speakers and their deputies will uphold the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree, and state Parliament’s commitment and readiness to hold a sitting.”
They said during their audience, the king was of the view that a sitting should be held before August 1.
The Agong has repeatedly said Parliament must reconvene as soon as possible.
After the meeting at Istana Negara yesterday, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon alluded to a sitting being called soon.
The Batu Pahat MP said Parliament will see either a normal sitting or a hybrid session.
“We will see you soon, God willing,” he told the press at Gate 2 of the palace following his audience. – The Vibes, June 30, 2021
