KUALA LUMPUR – Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is now coordinating minister for the National Recovery Plan (NRP), said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today.
The PMO said this was decided at the first meeting of the special cabinet committee on the NRP today, chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement, it added that Tengku Zafrul will be tasked with overseeing the implementation of the government’s assistance measures and other proactive steps.
“Tengku Zafrul will be responsible for overlooking the NRP’s strategies execution and aids, as well as taking proactive and appropriate intervention measures based on the Covid-19 pandemic, which is very dynamic,” it said.
The committee has also agreed to strengthen cooperation with experts in the health, economic and social sectors to obtain feedback and continuously assess the effectiveness of policies on patient management in hospitals and vaccine administration across the country.
“The involvement of professionals, especially public health and economic experts in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, is a continuous effort by the government to ensure pandemic management strategies are on the right track.”
It also said the government understands the difficulties of the people at this time and the challenges faced in efforts to help the country recover from Covid-19.
“Therefore, the government will continue all actions to ensure the success of the NRP by prioritising the well-being of the people and being transparent and inclusive.
“To ensure that this plan launches smoothly, the National Economic and Coordination Implementation Agency under the Finance Ministry has been appointed as the secretariat to the special cabinet NRP committee.
“This is to standardise efforts between the ministry and agencies directly involved in all NRP policies.” – The Vibes, July 9, 2021
