BUTTERWORTH – An elderly couple have been found dead in their home in Taman Kimsar here, in what is suspected to be a tragic case of murder-suicide.

A police spokesman said initial investigations will be centred on the possibility that the man stabbed his wife in their bedroom before taking his own life by hanging himself in the kitchen.

Their bodies were discovered by their son yesterday afternoon when he dropped by to check on his parents.

Penang Criminal Investigation Department head Rahimi Mohd Ra’ais was reported as saying envy is suspected to be the motive behind the incident.

“A dispute likely occurred between the couple, possibly due to jealousy.

“The 54-year-old wife was found with three stab wounds on the neck, chest and stomach in the bedroom, while the 65-year-old man was found hanged in the kitchen.”

Cops found a blade believed to have been used in the stabbing.

The bodies have been sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem.
