KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded another 862 Covid-19 cases, said the Health Ministry, taking the national tally to 22,225.
Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the fresh infections, 860 are local transmissions.
There are currently 7,681 active cases, with 95 patients in intensive care, of whom 29 are on ventilators.
The ministry reported 634 new recoveries, bringing the total to 14,351.
The coronavirus death toll has hit 193, with another three fatalities registered.
The two imported cases today involve a Malaysian and a foreigner, returning from Egypt and Indonesia, respectively.
Of the local cases, Sabah has the highest number at 673, followed by Selangor (132), Kedah (17), Perak (9), Penang (8), Labuan (6), Negri Sembilan (6), Kuala Lumpur (6), Putrajaya (1), Johor (1) and Kelantan (1).
Dr Noor Hisham said another cluster has been identified in Sabah’s Kota Belud district.
“The index case was identified as positive in close-contact screening on October 14, and has been admitted to the quarantine and treatment centre at the Taman Seri Bayu flats.
“Subsequent contact tracing identified 19 more cases.”
As of noon today, he said, 216 people have been screened in this cluster, with 21 testing positive. – The Vibes, October 20, 2020
